The driving experience

Motors & tyres on the Glockner

Full speed ahead for vintage cars & convertibles, motorbikes, bicycles and buses

The basic idea of the planners and constructers of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road revolved around the mobile discovery of a unique high alpine landscape. The Grossglockner, which back then could only be experienced by athletic mountain hikers, was to be made accessible for everyone. This great vision become reality when the alpine road was opened in 1935; nowadays, around 900,000 guests visit this terrific attraction in the heart of the Eastern Alps every year. Be part of it: as a visitor during a drive up to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, as a participant in a vintage car event or as onlooker at international sporting events such as the Glocknerkönig. We will inform you about the infrastructure for two-wheel and four-wheel drivers, the most spectacular events and the service for your bus tour operation.

It is officially not allowed to camp along the road, because it is a nature reserve (Nationalpark).
